Rani Tops the Manua Loa Podium

A special “Hurray” to Cycle Station Racing Team athlete, Rani Henderson, for winning the Inaugural C2 Mauna Loa hill climb bike race with a first place women’s finish in an impressive time of 5:27:59! An epic day of racing with nearly 12,000 feet of climbing starting at sea level and finishing at over 11,000 feet in elevation near the summit of Mauna Loa. After taking the lead in the women’s race at mile 9, Henderson would continue to lead for the next 34 miles before being forced to slow to a near snail’s pace to fight oncoming leg cramps. Henderson now found herself in second place and with a grueling 16 miles to go, she hung tough and kept the pedals turning at a steady pace to become the first female to conquer the Inaugural C2 Mauna Loa hill climb race. “It was such an amazingly beautiful day,” Henderson said. “I can’t believe I just did that. It feels so awesome to become the first to win it. I also have to thank my husband, Penn, for being my support the entire way.” Henderson, who rode a 2002 carbon road bicycle, said she feels proud and honored to be on the Cycle Station Racing Team. “Cycle Station is like family to me,” she said. “They made sure to have my old road bike running smoothly. They are truly the best!”
