Cycle Station athlete, Rani (Tanimoto) Henderson, represented well at Sunday’s 20th Anniversary of the Kona Half Marathon event, held at the Sheraton Kona at Keauhou Bay. Only 2 ½ months after having her baby, Rani surprised herself by crossing the finish line as the first female in the competitive women’s division. The win did not come easily, as Rani found herself trailing the early women’s leaders for the first three miles, and eventually settled into second place by mile four. Rani kept her position until mile 7, where she pressed her pace forward to take over the lead and claim her 8th Half Marathon victory. Rani was also honored at the pre-race marathon party by the event organizer as the only female to have the most half marathon victories in its 20 year history.
Rani also won the Kona Marathon in 2007, and the 10-K event in 2011.
